I've long held the view that if you want to reduce the carbon footprint of your gas guzzler, you should just buy two of them. Since you can only drive one at a time, it cuts your carbon footprint in half.
I was up visiting a pilot plant the other day that does something pretty interesting. Their plant takes in atmospheric carbon dioxide and electricity and produces a hydrocarbon liquid that's chemically similar to a mix of gasoline and diesel. They say that if they can get electricity for around 2 cents a KWH, their hydrocarbon product becomes competitive with fossil fuels. If this actually works, who needs electric cars?
