Here's a couple more noob questions for you. I'm reading thru the MCA event rules document and see that a helmet is required. They don't mention rentals, so I'm guessing they won't have them on hand and I need to purchase one? Note: Please don't flame me for asking about rental equipment... I won't be participating in HPDE events often and I'm definitely not wealthy, so I have to spend carefully. :) Also, I don't see a HANS device reference, so those are optional from what you've experienced Thanks again for your help!!!
I messaged one of the MCA guys and he confirmed that they won't have helmet rentals for the event (just some extras on-hand for ride-alongs). I started shopping around for one and am finding they cost more than I expected (but what doesn't these days right?). I know this won't make any sense for the single guys in here, but to keep peace with my wife and home budget, I'm going to try to sell the Pirelli P Zeros that came on my DH to help pay for the helmet (I replaced them last fall with more weather-friendly Michelin Sport 4S tires). They have around 2k street miles, but should have life left for several track days I would say. Do you think anyone on here would be interested in them?

You might look for Snell 2020 closeout deals, since the 2025-spec helmets are on the market now. Always read the rules, but several groups let you run the current and previous one or two Snell specs. So now, 2025, 2020, and maybe 2015 would be legal, though some groups also "time out" a helmet from manufacturing date. For on-track driving, you probably want to stick to the SA ratings (again, read the rules).

B = Advanced (Solo driving with documented advanced driver status)
C = Intermediate (Experienced with several driving school and open track events)
D = Novice (Limited experience with one or two prior driving schools or open track events, instruction required)
I fully agree. You know the track. I am in Advanced as I have raced in the HSR Walter Mitty for 25 years. It's a fast track and some guys can wreck me. I don't have insurance.

I am driving a 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350:

It's my first time in a modern-tire at Road Atlanta. My previous car was a 1965 Mustang with bias (vintage) tires.

I have experienced the worst part of racing. I know what can happen.

Gateway Classic Mustang out of Bourbon, MO will be the instructors. They have been the ones at the last two OIR events as well. It will be a lead/follow for the Novice that have signed up for instruction. This is based on a conversation with Jason at OIR this year.

Good guys and are good instructors.

I will withhold my opinion of MCA but I will most likely NOT be renewing my membership with MCA after it expires in September. I guess that probably casts my opinion. We were supposed to be going to Atlanta this summer but canceled after our experience this year at OIR. Not with the track event coordinators (Gateway) but based solely on experience with MCA.

This will be my first MCA national show event so we'll see how it goes (fingers crossed)!

On a side note, I'm a member of our regional MCA club (First Tennessee Regional Group) and we're celebrating our 50th anniversary as well. In case any of you are interested, we're hosting an all Ford car show at Allandale Mansion in Kingsport, TN on June 13th. We're going to have multiple food trucks, awesome door prizes, 50 trophies to award, and presenting a unique Mustang-themed gift to a local special needs child. Y'all are welcome to bring your track cars and show them off!
