We just got back from a long weekend at VIRginia International Raceway for HyperFest.
We competed in the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge as well as NASA's Time Trial Unlimited class.
Thursday night started with being invited by Grassroots Motorsports Magazine, to participate in an on track photo-shoot, followed by a video interview.
The UTCC field was stacked with the fastest cars we have competed against, including a 2850# GT1/Trans Am Dodge Challenger, 2000# Ligier JSP3 LMP3 Prototype, a couple of well prepared Radicals, a Ferrari 458 Challenge, a Porsche GT3 R, as well as a couple of NASCAR Cup cars brought by Hendrick Motorsports including Jimmy Johnson's back up car.
Brian had not run at VIR in 4 years. Going into the last session Brian was in 3rd place and needed to pick up 1.2 seconds. It was the hottest session of the day (93 degrees ambient) and was going to be a challenge. We put on a fresh set of Hoosier slicks and sent him.
All the other competitors slowed down a bit in the heat, but Brian was able to put a down a lap of 1:47.507, winning the UTCC by .099 seconds over the Challenger. Brian was also able to win the Fastest on Hoosiers award, and Fastest RWD award.
What a drive and accomplishment by Brian and the team at PAE.
Brian continued his winning ways winning TTU with a new track record on Saturday, and followed up with another TTU win and another track record on Sunday.
