Another slow month, not many updates.
Picked up some more parts here and there, not much on the chassis side, and the motor is a f-ing nightmare.
I've been doing the "not this week, but I promise next week" dance for a few months now with the builder, and I thought I finally was hearing some progress when they actually called me (imagine my shock):
They had honed the block and were prepping for assembly to meet a Friday deadline where I was to come pick it up in person. However after honing, they weren't satisfied with the bores knowing that I wasn't going to accept anything less than ideal. So they asked if they could overbore it and get my authorization for new pistons that were .005" over what I had (an added cost). I gave them that authorization, they mentioned the pistons were in stock and quoted a week from yesterday to be done (the builder is out of town this week). This also gave me a chance to move back from 11.5:1 to 11:1 (the 11.5:1 had been unusually difficult to tune from a fuel need perspective, not really being in a happy place short of 94.5 octane) All seemed well.
However, I reviewed Manley's piston offerings, knowing my bores were already 3.640" (0.010" overbore). They don't make a 3.645" piston off the shelf, so I thought I'd reach out to MMR for clarification on the bore sizes. They shot back quickly that my original build was 3.635" (0.005" over) and that they were going to 3.640". This didn't seem right as all my paperwork (linked here: http://1drv.ms/1QvBJgd ) showed the 3.640". Since the builder is out this week, emails and calls I've placed are unanswered (or I receive well you have to wait). So of course I'm frustrated and am left with a perception of one of the following possibilities (ranked best to worst):
-The original sheet is wrong, and they measured the bores before talking to me (somehow THAT is the best possibility, le sigh)
-The original sheet is right, they just didn't check this time
-The original sheet is right, they have a bad measurement
-The original sheet is right, they didn't measure shiznit
-The original sheet is right, and I'm just being sold something for the sake of profiteering
There's a lot more possibilities out there, but my perception as the oft-screwed customer is going to be slighted. So we'll see what happens next week. Hopefully can work on the chassis a bit, or work on trying to find more money to dump into this endless pit of heartbreak.
