We are putting a 2015 Mustang in places where Mustangs have never competed, beating Unlimited Prototypes, Vipers, Corvettes, Porsches etc.

PAE had a busy 2016 season leading up to the NASA East Coast Championships held at the famous Watkins Glen International Raceway.

After working with Brian in his turbo charged Mustangs for the past 4 seasons, Paul decided it was time to get his 1965 Mustang back on track. After a light freshen up the 65 was ready to go.

Brian entered our 2015 Mustang (turbocharged Ford Performance Boss 302 engine) in the Super Unlimited class and the Time Trial Unlimited class. Paul entered his 1965 Mustang (turbocharged Ford Performance alum 427 engine) in the American Iron Extreme class.

Time Trial Unlimited:
Brian was running well under the track record on Saturday, and Sunday morning blistered the record by over 8 seconds, running a 1:48.6 second lap, winning TTU by almost 3 seconds. Here is a link to his record setting lap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7JjK7PfGeM

Super Unlimited:
In Super Unlimited, in the first qualifying race Brian started 29th due missing qualifying (Motec sensor failure) and managed to finish 2nd behind pro driver Brian Frisselle in a prototype, handily beating the Comp coupe Vipers, Corvettes etc. His lap time put him in P2 for the second qualifying race. Brian took the lead at the start. The prototype got by but had a problem and Brian had an easy win.

Brian started P1 for the Championship race (it was a crash fest), but unfortunately some track debris put a hole in his radiator ending his day early. It was a real shame as Brian did not put a wheel wrong all week and had the speed to push the prototype.

American Iron Extreme:
Paul ran his 1965 Mustang in the American Iron Extreme class. In the first qualifying race Paul won and broke the AIX track record (his from 2010) by .5 seconds. Starting from pole in the second qualifying race Paul won again resetting the AIX track record by another 4.5 seconds. The Championship race was marred by multiple crashes and many caution laps. Paul managed to stay out of the carnage and brought home the win.

All in all PAE’s turbo charged Mustangs had a great 2016 season. Starting (22) races we had 18 wins, (3) second place finishes, and (1) DNF track debris damaged a radiator.

We have not had a chance to optimize the boost curves yet and are leaving a lot of torque on the table. Hopefully this winter we will be able to do that.
Although power and torque are very important I think most people over look the fact that we are approaching 2 G's in the corners.
