Re: Track Time

No Cloud, correct answer is.................

" Yeh, I know , I was going so fast when I past your Bimmer it must have all just seemed like a blur. " Good to finally meet you ,now that we are going slow enough for you to see me.

Sunday afternoon I learned first hand the importance of a warmup lap for the tires. I lined up in the grid behind an instructor in a BMW 1M. At turn one, I rolled into the right hander with the speed for warmed up tires. Back end let go, and I'm off track, finally stopping about 75' off track. Luckily, it was very dry and very little grass, so easy drive onto track once the cars all drove by.

I'm still working tire pressures down on the NT-05. New Longacre gauge reads 3 psi higher than my former gauge, and I'm running 38 hot, but might be able to drop lower for tire life and still get good handling as Scott was able to do.

No matter how many times everyone tells us about warming up the tires it is bound to happen, I have done this myself. The hoosier take-offs take two full laps to really warm up and I knew that, still I went for a spin on lap two last time out.

How is the wear on the middle section going at your pressures? Also how close are you to the arrows on the outside?

I wonder if the Shelby aluminum radiator from the GT350 is any better since it was designed to support the supercharged engine. ???
I have the 302S radiator already which has the aluminum instead of plastic side tanks. The system has the cooling capacity, it's just an airflow issue to the radiator as evidenced by the quick recovery and the significant reduction in coolant temps when pulling the grille.

Re: Track Time

Well the last 3 set of DBA 5000 rings I had were cryo treated. This set only lasted about 6 track days versus 15 to 17. I'm sold on cryo treatment for sure now. I wonder if I can send my brand new set of rings to Wayne's guy at frozen rotors to have them cryoed? I need to order some new ones too.

Re: Track Time

Yikes.

Re: Track Time

Geez Gary, those rings didn't last long!

Yep, Frozen Rotors will cryo your stash of DBA5000 and 4000 rings/rotors.
Based on your experience, I'll send my spare DBA4000 fronts and PowerSlot rears.

From FAQ page:
If I want to send in my rotors for treatment, what is the cost?
The cost for cryogenic treatment is $56 per car rotor and $75 per truck rotor. You will be responsible for the shipping to us and a $10 return shipping charge.

A Pontiac G8 driver last weekend at MAM had after-market bigbrakes added to his car--he cracked both rotors bad Saturday morning. Brake cooling is important and he didn't have any. . .

Scott,
Middles are hanging in there, and now almost even with the edges, but slightly more middle wear at this point. I'm at the tips of the triangles, so I'm close to where I need to be. Its my first NT-05, so I can't expect to be perfect on the first set, but you've given lots of great advice.
I could tell after I took a few pounds out that the rear tires were hooking up better on track out.
When I put on the next set, I should have them figured out.

Yup, Diversified Cryogenics (a.k.a. Frozen Rotors) treated my Coleman rotors also.

Re: Track Time

Nice cool air today making.g big power. My goal was to break into the 2:30s. The fast Z06s and GT3RSs in the A group are turning 2:32-2:34. Second session this morning turned a 2:36! :). I also cracked those used 4000s I put on last night :(ugh. I have a used set of stock rotors for this afternoon to hopefully finish the event. A Z06 lost brakes at Canada corner last session and went through the sand pits into the tire wall. They said to get through the sand trap you have to be going over 100 . This place is hard on brakes but at least easy on tires.

Re: Track Time

Not sure if you're going to be heading back through Milwaukee on your way home, but if you do, check out Louise's (modern Italian) on Jefferson St, or Turner's (American) on 4th st.

Nice, looks like you'll need a bit more HP to compensate for the extra 300 pounds you're carrying. ;) $$$

Thanks but we don't go through Milwaukee. Going to hit Antonio's tonight in Plymouth, WI just 5 minutes from the track. Now this is Pete's kind of place ;D

Wow what a great time at Road America. This place is unbelievable and FAST. Top speed near 150 3 times a lap  Tons of elevation change make it just a blast. It's also really easy on tires......tough on brakes though  There was a guy with a gutted '01 Cobra and a 2.3 Whipple making 540 at the tire running with the racecars and as fast as anything out there. He was doing a rotor swap (lot of that going around at RA) He was running Hawk rears and used to run DTC70s but just switched to PF01s. He said the initial bite wasn't quite as good as the DTCs but he was tired of fighting the rotor carnage. I think I'll give the 01/97 combo a try. I just need to figure out what to get for rotors. I have a set of 5000 rings and may send them to Frozen Rotors (Diversified Cryogenics) to cryo them but want to order another set so I have a backup. I just need something relatively soon....

The thing is I put that used set of stockers that I previously tracked with my GT500 and had turned so I could keep them in the trailer as spares. I ran 3 hard sessions on them and they didn't even heat check. Could the answer possibly be just running stock rotors and getting 3 or 4 sets for the price of a 2 piece ???

Re: Track Time

Car looks great Gary! Especially gaining on those vettes!!

When my skill level gets above my stock suspension I will definitely go that route. Especially if you find something better and sell me your slightly used 302S suspension :p

Re: Track Time

Well, with the wedding/honeymoon I couldn't afford to do it this year either way :(

But my skill level may quickly catch up to the car and I will just have to upgrade the suspension ;)

And 302S sounds so much better. So, I guess I'll keep calling it that until you guys get tired of correcting me ;D
