Love Road America!

I plan on being there for the Northwoods Shelby event at the end of July. It's been several years since I've been to this event but it's always a lot of fun plus it is a 3 day event. ;D
Dangit! I was teetering between the two, but the Nordstern PCA 3 day event is at BIR that same weekend. It's my only chance to run BIR this year since their fall event is the same weekend as the Mustang Roundup at MPH. I wish we could have connected there Dean.

Told you RA was worth the tow. ;) yes most people are slow through the uphill left hander after Canada. The GT3 on street tires was just a feather on turn in turn then full throttle up the hill. Fun times.

You were absolutely right.....so right in fact that as soon as we got home we booked another trip over there in 4 weeks with the PCA ;D

Got a bunch of FL buds in GT3RS coming to the Nord Stern RA event. They are quick running 2:30's on RA1's. They are also a beer swilling crowd and a good group of guys.

I saw there were an inordinately high number of GT3RSs registered compared to the usual group. The faster GT3RSs and Z06s were running 2:30s last week at GTTrackdays too.....and that Cobra Mustang making 540 rwhp at 3200 lbs running 2:29  Big hp/wt is a significant advantage on a long high speed track like RA. I was talking with Bill Groschen with Frozen Rotors today who's been instructing for something like 50 years and is really quick in his '95 M3 said a fast lap for him at RA is 2:39. The guy with the Cobra has a friend (Full Tilt Boogie Racing owner) with a 302S and said he runs 2:31 in it.

Dangit squared - I thought about taking a little track break after Track Attack next week and catch up on stuff around the house.
Wait, the house projects will be there the next weekend too . . .
Better check the calendar.

Since Ford tested and engineered the stock hood to 155 or higher you are probably fine but then again I put a couple on my GT500 hood for piece of mind too.

Mine fluttered a little at sustained speed of 155 when I ran Daytona. However I was not worried at all during the event.

The FTBR guy is on SVTP, good dude from the looks of it. Constantly innovating new products.

Re: Track Time

Road America is a blast - knew you'd like it! :)

That track convinced me to upgrade my rear wing to the GT500 I currently use. I ran RA first with the stocker wing, and let me tell you, the rear felt all kinds of floaty on the straights over 120-130 or so - it was not confidence inspiring...after the wing, however, it felt solid and planted. I don't have the 302s hood, but the stocker did OK - was a little jittery, but never made me nervous. Of course, after my experience last weekend with heat at Gingerman (95 degrees and humid as a sauna), I do have to get some kind of heat venting going. The 302s grill has helped enormously, but it's still a step or two away from where it needs to be.

My last run at RA was last October, and we saw tons of brake-related issues that day. Scariest I saw was a 370z right in front of me at Canada Corner plow straight into the tire wall - guy said he floored his pedal and got nada out of it. FWIW, I have run RA twice now with cooling ducts, PFC01/97's, and stock rotors that I turned when I installed the pads, plus SRF fluid, and I never have had an issue. It's been solid for me, although my rotors are close to done at this point.

As far as your suspension mods...damn. Impressive, indeed. My shopping list is growing lol. That cornering stance is sexy as hell. I have plenty of pics/vids of me going around corners, and my body roll is ludicrous. Getting about time to remedy that, methinks 8)

That makes me feel a lot better about the LS wing I just bought. :)

I cringed when I saw it - nasty. The guy was OK and walked away, but the car...well let's just say I know for a fact that Nissan's front crash safety testing must be top-notch.

My wife and friends cringed when they had a front row seat to the Z06 plowing into the wall there two turns ahead of me. They said the thud when it hit the tire wall was sickening. Fortunately both walked away and the car went in backward so shockingly the damage was limited to the rear bumper cover tail lights and backing lights. How the car wasn't totaled is amazingly lucky. All I saw was a mushroom cloud of dust as I came around the corner. I could only barely make out the car deep in the sand trap up against the tire wall on my next lap around under yellow.

Re: Track Time

Anyone doing Sears Point this weekend with NASA? I'll be there in the trash can, just put the tranny back in and buttoned the motor back up. Not taking the Boss because my GF is coming and set up for her to do a hyperdrive. She thought I was going to let her take the Boss ;D

Re: Track Time

Rainbow Coalition...good one. :D Lookin' good, Gary! NASA is at Road Atlanta this weekend - wish I could have gone.

Re: Track Time

Couple of laps around PBIR, still looking for the sub-1:30's :( Hit 141 on the straight for the first time ;D

Re: Track Time

The Miller boys showed up in sunny California today to play.

IMG-20120616-00444.jpg

They were only here for one day. Talked to a couple of them and they confirmed the OEM pads are Performance Friction. My E30 had a bad tranny day so may bring the Boss out to play tomorrow. They suggested going to O'Reilly auto parts because they should stock 2 types of PF pads for the Boss/GT Brembos that would work for light track duty (I have the OEMs still, they were not good at Thunderhill).

I also heard through a rumor tree that they will be offering a different type of school there, a Raptor school. I don't know the details.

They told me that they will have the dates for next year's TA soon, and they just got some 13s so they will have more cars to do more people. Not sure I am happy about that, as small classes are usually better. I jokingly asked if I could rent one of the FR500Ses for the day since my car was having issues, they said to go home and get the Boss because it is faster ;D

Anyone else go to Sears Point today or going tomorrow?

And as a side note, I believe it was here that we discussed using an angled pipe to fool the sound police at Laguna Seca, etc and here is a pic of what I was talking about. I didn't get a chance to talk to the guy so not sure what track it is set up for but I would guess LS.

Re: Track Time

After driving both back to back I can confirm the Boss is a little faster, but the FR500S is still a blast because racecar. Have fun today!

Re: Track Time

If you get a chance, ask them what they've done for cooling on the Bosses at TA and if they've made any changes to the clutch line.

Re: Track Time

They aren't coming back today, they were just here for a one day photo op. Apparently Larry Miller or whatever his name is was there too, my gf recognized him. I tried to bum some take off brake pads off them but they only had the FR500Ses there and they have different pads. Forgot to ask what they use for cooling, but did talk to them about pads. They said PF (they are sponsored I'm pretty sure) pads and the cooling ducts and dot 4 and you are good to go. If I remember, I'll ask at TA ;D

I'm about 90% decided to bring the Boss today, we don't have a session until noon so I have some time to go look for pads, but my gf is signed up for the hypermile 1 session track school and I don't want her doing it in the Boss. I don't think she would be amused if I told her we were taking 2 cars.

Oh and question for you guys, we have discussed harnesses here before and I have used a CG lock in other cars and it was great, but it kept coming unhooked from the buckle on the Boss. Couldn't get it to stay on. Being a street car and how much my nephews lover riding in it, I don't want to do a harness bar. But I was thinking, maybe I could get the clips for the seat bolts and install just the bottom half of that Crow (iirc the brand) harness so it has the sub belts and the waist but put the stock 3 pt over it for the upper body. That would hold me in the seat well, but still allow the top of the 3 pt to function correctly. The seat back is so flexible that even with a harness top, I don't think it will be that much better since it will still twist. What do you guys think? I know no harness manufacturer will recommend the setup but for just HPDE I don't see how it could be less safe than the stock belts other than having to unplug two belts in a fire.
