Re: Track Time

Here are a couple videos from my weekend at Inde Motorsports Ranch in Willcox, AZ. We ran the track on a different configuration each day. The track is at 4100' elevation, and temperatures were 95-98* during the afternoon :(

This was my first event with the Roush Trak Pak suspension installed and it worked very well.

For the first time on-track here in AZ, the temp gauge was getting near the "H" mark and I had to short-shift during a few sessions to keep out of limp mode. This is with the 302S Grille, Hood, and Water Wetter. The car was fine as long as the ambient temps were below 90*F. I guess I'll need to get that oil cooler sooner than planned! Also my diff was puking a little bit but nothing major.
On the plus side, it looks like I will be able to get another event out of these Hoosiers!

Saturday Video:

Sunday Video (shot on a newer Flip cam that apparently has some built-in image stabilization). This was on a faster track configuration than the previous video (see track map traces). The downhill kink after the main straight takes some cojones!

I have another video going nose-to-tail for a few laps with a bunch of vintage Porsches, might get around to editing that one tomorrow.

Re: Track Time

Just got back from NJMP for 2 days earlier this week. Damn was I humbled ! This was the first time I drove full time in the instructor group, chock full of GT3RS's and guys with 15+ years of track duty. One guy with an insane Radical race car, 440 HP, 10.5K rev limit and 1500 lbs.

I had two great students (a Novice and an Intermediate level 1) who had a great time and learned a lot. All I learned was that I need to keep my right foot down a hell of a lot more if I'm going to keep up with some of those bastards on those tracks (there are 2, Lightning and Thunderbolt) ;D

Re: Track Time

Final video from the other weekend; these laps are about 3-4 seconds slower than the fastest lap I posted on this config earlier. Also I was carrying a passenger so race weight is close to 4000lbs, lol

Nice. Those Porsche's looked pretty squirrely trying to stay in front of you. :D

Re: Track Time

Trying to convince my bro to convert his 996 Cabriolet into a track car, anyone tracked one before? It is the 1st year of 996 I think. He is a complete track noob for cars, though he has been tracking bikes for a while, and he refuses to use my E30 because he says it smells funny and I need to repaint it ::)

Re: Track Time

My first reply to that is that it (in my opinion) is a waste of time to do that to a convertible when there are so many viable hardtop specimens available; however it can be done.

Re: Track Time

Went to Watkins Glen this past weekend with the GV chapter of BMW. Had a great instructor. First day was running in the rain and was not a lot of fun! Quite a few cars spun out and a couple of cars hit the wall. Second day was dry and I was able to run my fastest time yet, a 2.24. This was the first time out with the new "P" springs which may have helped some. Here is the video link of my final run which had a fastest lap of 2.25. Running on basically brand new p-zeros. Try to ignore all the talking!!

Re: Track Time

Just got back from Mont Tremblant, short shifting all the way (details in the Misfires threads soon). Rainy second day @ 50 degrees - Geez. Lost my right side splitter to the mother earth on a spinout around an uphill off-camber left. Anyone who knows the track it's the left right after the bridge. Wish I had a pic of the grass damage as well as the dirt that flew in through the passengers side window ! Side splitter is toast so I'll take off the left one and call it a day on those, they serve no purpose but to kick up more dirt if you hit the alfalfa sideways (as Gary would say) ;D Because of rain and limp mode issues had one good run all weekend but I should have it on the camera. I'll get it posted ASAP.

Ordered my 302S oil cooler today...might as well install that and the tow hooks at the same time. Gotta install my RLCAs this weekend and change the diff fluid too.
Must still be 100+ down there with all this garage time ;D At least you'll be ready to roll when I'm rocking my Competition Orange Ariens snowblower.

Re: Track Time

Couple of laps around Daytona. I had hoped to get under 2:10 but 2:11's was the best before the clutch completely gave out and stuck to the floor every shift I made. I spent the last session pulling it off the floor with my foot but it made the car almost undriveable. As always it was hard to shift all day but never as bad as this. The Advanced Track also went into error on the first lap of the first session and stayed that way all day. I had no control over the system and tried to reset it by disconnecting the battery between session but that had no effect.

Re: Track Time

I had a terrific track day at ThunderHill with the NorCal Shelby club. It's always fun to see so many 60's, 70's and 80's Mustangs out on track having a good time. Some of the 60's cars are really fast and in beautiful condition. Some of those cars are approaching 50 years old.

You never know what you'll see with NorCal Shelby and I parked next to this guy running a GT40 with a 302 in it. I'd never seen one on a track and its extremely low to the ground.

Re: Track Time

Click the left most button above the smilies which says YouTube then paste the link between the bracketed parts. Unless you have embedding turned off on your account.

The url has to be from the watching page, and clip off the embed code and the referrals so it ends right before the & before pasting it in, ie in this form: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86Cbmtis3iU instead of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86Cbmtis3iU&list=UU4tqBdGYU-ap6S9Qg8CE2WA&index=2&feature=plcp
