Re: Track Time

Just got back from LRP yesterday, had a great day with SteveEspo and Roketman. Steve was running like a madman with his newly acquired Pirelli slicks, posting lap times .5 to almost 1.0 faster than that I could muster yesterday. I'm blaming it on my almost toasted Nittos - that's my story and I'm sticking to it !! ;D The more I push the car on these smaller tracks in cool weather the more I see that the car is crying out for a 302S suspension.

As far as Ron is concerned, his new Cup car is 'the bomb' - as fast as you would expect a Cup car to be. He was posting sub 1:00 times once he got settled into the car and I'm sure these a little tweaking to be done to get it at 100%. Still, he was toasting everyone on the course. It may also have something to do with the fact that he's as old as Methuselah and has a billion track hours, but don't tell him I said that ! ::) Ron - doesn't your arthritis bother you getting in and out of that thing ?? ;D

So far the latest changes recommended by FRPP and completed last week on my Boss seem to be working for my limp mode issue, at least they did yesterday. I believe there is still some steps to be taken, so communications with my dealer and FRPP continue.

Re: Track Time

So did you get a ride in the cup car and leave your mark behind? ;) I still think Ron needs a 458 Challenge car, I hear they are MUCH MUCH faster! ::)

Sounds like a good time.

I was hanging out with these guys on Friday. It's always fun getting point by's from cars costing a lot more than the Boss. ;D

Re: Track Time

Let's put it this way - my son, who has about 0% body fat and a 'loose' 34" waist, had to squeeze into the seat to help Ron put the car back in his trailer. If I could get into those seats (based on the law of physics an impossibility) I'd never get out!

Re: Track Time

Looks like a good time Rick! I'm now signed up to hit Laguna Seca the day after Thanksgiving with the Nor Cal Shelby Club.

Re: Track Time

Yup the car was awesome! Had a great time hanging with Pete and Stevo.Steve looked fast out there.Lots of traffic though. As for the F Challenge car thing ,not for me.Some sorting to do with the GT3 CUP ,but not much .More me getting back in the grove with the car.I have 3 days left on the track this year .Than its just a long winter.Enjoyed seeing my Boss 302 buddies! I was pleased that they still hung out with me!
Pete thank Pete jr for helping out! Made it home by 5:45 ! Made it to the party and talked car talk all night!
When I can figure out how to post some video from the smarty cam .I will!
My best regards to all.
Ron AKA Roketman

Re: Track Time

Great seeing Pete and Ron at LRP Saturday. The weather held out and at 62 degrees it wasn't too bad for the tires. Ran my Pirelli Gran Am take off slicks and had a great time. Some video, last laps I am following Elivan Goulart, who is a North East SCCA Spec Miata champion, in one of the members Roush Charged 2008 GT. Learned some refined lines from him. Pete was running well in the insane Advanced group, I stayed in Intermediate 2 but may jump in the deep end of the pool next.

Fixed.

Re: Track Time

Steve,
Looking good buddy! With no traffic you would be sub 1:00! Nice driving!Slicks are like crack aren't they? You going on the nov 12?
Tell me where to get some grand am scrubs .

Re: Track Time

Ron
Thanks, I've learned a little watching your vids ;D. I bought the Pirelli take offs from Turner Motorsport, I'm running 305/685-18s rear and 265/645-18 front. The 685 is the stock tire height of 27 inches, just ordered a pair of 305/660-18 to lower my effective gearing to 3.73 instead of the 3.55 I am running. I think these are actually Porsche Cup sizes for the cars that run Grand Am GT class.
May go to Nov 12 if my wife doesn't kill me!
Steve

Re: Track Time

Here's my contribution to society on 10/27 @ LRP. I like the lines but there's 2 secs in there that shouldn't be. Like I said above I'm blamin' it on tired Nitto's and a cool track - that's my story and I'm stickin' to it ! ;D

Re: Track Time

Best picture I have seen so far (read: The only picture in focus) from this weekend at Firebird West Track out here in sunny AZ. This one is a 75mph RH sweeper.

This one as well, but not very exciting...just "going straight". :)

Pete,
It's definitely the tires!
To much coasting !
Love ya!

I know, once I got into big bend at normal speed I felt I couldn't get on the gas right away. Same with turn after west bend and after the downhill. Maybe it was just be being too cautious but it just felt too slick. There's at least 2 seconds in there for all of that.

Looking good and nice tow hook. New wheels?

Borrowed wheels--I bought a set of tires that were attached to these wheels, so just bolt-on and go. Will use em next month too, then give em back sans depleted tires.
