Re: Track Time

Track: Miller, West course
Track Attack
20 June
75 deg, clear skies, calm winds
I was the only student with track experince (the rest don't know what they're missing!).
High altitude robs a lot of power! I was amazed how much.
TracKey--loved the idle. Felt the increased throttle response. Didn't notice engine braking. (I don't have it installed on my Boss).
Academics had some good topics not covered in several BMW driving schools I've attended, such as braking intensity--ramp up fairly quick, maintain it, then taper off gradually.
Heal/toe exercise--finally got a clue how to do this, and used it in the afternoon.
Sessions--the West course has some challenging turns--5 and 7 being the most difficult.
One classmate learned real fast, and the 2 of us beat up on the rest of the drivers during the last session. He was first out of the garage, and I was second. We chased down a couple cars before the front straight each time. He got a lead on me as I was second to pass, so I never had the chance to pass him.
Overall a great time. Awesome facility.

Re: Track Time

Glad you had a great time and the West Course is my favorite of the two -- flows better than the East end. Did you get to run the entire course, as that is the real riot.

The trick on the West side is you have to use quite a bit of the curbing -- running over Scream at speed is superfun and it takes you right to the edge of the track. The curbs help rotate the car in many cases, and most are not that high, and the Boss's suspension is really set up to address them.

Bet you will shave 3-5 seconds off your MAM times after going to Miller - especially since you are learning to heel and toe.

Re: Track Time

Photograper from the track day posted pics, I'm 5'8" and tall in the saddle (short legs for my size) and my gf is about 5'2" she claims. You can tell in the pic ;D

So it looks like they have the LS aero and wheels on the standard Bosses at TA? Were they that way when we were there last August??

Yep, but most of them had the stock Boss wheels and only a few of them had the 302S wheels

Yep, all of them have LS spoiler and splitter with the LS wheels. The silver LS has red wheels, all other black/silver.

Re: Track Time

Stock GT3's I can play with but those modded/gutted ones are insanely quick. There was a GT3RS on the track at that time also (not in video) with about $50K worth of mods to bring it to (and maybe beyond) Cup car capabilities. On the straights with me at WOT he passed me like I was parked !

The NSX is my buddy Terry's, it's totally stock and he was running street tires. He says it handles great but it does need an infusion of HP, he was thinking of slapping a supercharger on it at some point. It redlines at 8000 and he said all of the power is up high in the range, it has very little low end torque. He not used to running the engine so high since he came out of a V8, he actually needs to go down into 2'nd gear coming out of some turns. Not exactly like our engine ;D

Re: Track Time

Hahaha you big bully! You looked like Earl Campbell out there running through arm tackles and scattering DBs like they were children trying to tackle a man :D

That was my experience with my friend's modded GT3RS, my skill level is a lot higher than his (I have been coaching him at our private track days, but he only has a couple of the Viper Track Day type schools of instruction) so I was running away from him in the bends but he would walk me pretty good on the straights. I'm just glad his GT3RS 4.0 is his DD, and the regular one is his track car.

Re: Track Time: Sonoma

I was at Sonoma yesterday for the first of three days for the NorCal Shelby Club's 28th Mini Nats. The Friday event was run by Hooked on Driving. One of the HOD officials took my 10 year old son up to the Race Control booth at the top of main grandstands and he got a big thrill out of that. We had a great time and met a couple of current and hopefully future BMO members. There were two current Boss and two LS cars tracking plus a few others attending the car show for a total of 9 Bosses.

Re: Track Time

Wow what a great weekend at Sears Point!!! You shoulda stayed for the weekend Rick... ;)

Highlights:

Rippin' around a new track for me, with a ton of Mustangs and Fords.
Getting a ride in a modified 2011 GT350 for a session.
Passing a GT40, which I think was original.
Seeing the Shelby 1000 lighting the tires up in the straights.

Lowlights:
Seeing a newer KR totalled during my session.
Seeing a 911 totalled during my session.
It was hot on Sunday. I think it hit 81* ;D
Getting passed by a Ford Fairmont.

81? I long for 81 degrees! :)

That blows about the totaled cars - I always hate to see that happen.

Passed by a Ford Fairmont? ROTFL! I think I would like to turn a Pinto wagon into a track car just for the novelty. :D

LOL I've also been passed by this car and remember it's really a Fox body Mustang underneath. He said it weighed 2,800 pounds (or was it 2,600) and puts out 500 HP. It's the king of sleeper cars. It has a small fortune in it including a new Boss 302 motor, older version not a Coyote, and about every aftermarket suspension piece known to man. He chopped the 5 MPH bumpers on it and that really cleaned up the looks. It's a really nice car.

Re: Track Time

I wrote a review on RA1s vs 888s, run on my other car back to back, but then I realized that RA1s are not available in Boss sizes :-\ so it is all irrelevant. Oops
