You do have a tranny cooler? That oil looks great compared to my old stinker MT82s... Those came out looking like bronze metallic paint. The Calimer stage three oil came out perfect.

I do remember that 2nd would pop out when hot on my old trannies.

No cooler, not generally thought to be needed for the short races we run. 20 to 35 min at most.

I found that installing a oil temp gauge for the transmission was quite eye opening. Our regular races are only 20min and my old trannies would get above 300F. Parts came out all blue!! You could feel the box getting notchy as the temps went up.. Since you wind up your motor past 8000 rpm my bet is you will get some pretty high temps as well. On the old MT82s had a Setrab 915 cooler and that brought the temps down to 250F max and the box stopped getting notchy. Once I went to the calimer unit the temps went down to 180F and I kept the pump setup since it was installed, but changed to a much smaller cooler.

Where did you put the sender, the drain hole or the fill hole?

The Tremec has a separate NPT plug that I assume was designed for a temp sender - it’s on the same side of the housing as the fill plug. I typically see 215-230 degrees on a 20 minute session and I’m only using a cooling scoop for increased airflow.

I'll check that out, thanks!

Have you done a back to back to see how much difference a scoop actually makes?

Sort of. I “removed” the Ford Performance scoop using unconventional means when I hit the loamy dirt of Buttonwillow in early May. On the drive home that afternoon, the trans temps were considerably higher than normal on the highway. I pull a small tire trailer, and going up through the grapevine the trans temp was getting up towards 240, which was highly unusual for the highway. I ran 3 sessions at Big Willow a couple weeks later, but they were time attack and only putting a couple hot laps in each session. Again, temps were higher than normal on the highway miles back and forth - enough to convince me to reinstall a scoop, but this time I opted for the Shelby scoop. It’s a bit wider side to side, but doesn’t hang down as far. Both styles are designed to bolt to the factory k-member which isn’t an option for you - however I know that won’t be a big deal with your skill set.

Yeah, I can make one but my car is so low it would become a street sweeper and I don't know how much cool air it would be able to pick up. Sounds like I need to hook up a gauge and see whats going on. Thanks for the input.

it was on the return line from the Drain at the bottom... Had to make a call, HAVE NOT HAD THE CAR HOME IN FOUR MONTHS!!!!:ohdamn: So starting to forget things... I do remember that on one of the trannies, we tapped a hole on top so the oil would go over the gears but it had very little effect.

I always just figured that if you didn't have a gauge on it, and it didn't blow up, it was fine. ;)

Lol... maybe its telling you something!! those 8000 + rpm stints must be heating things up quite a bit. With the temp gauge you can see how much rpm affects the heat in the tranny. Whats one more gauge among all the others you already have . At least the XL is already plumbed and ready to go for a oil pump setup.

When I took the blower off I removed the boost gauge and replaced it with the trans temp gauge I had left over from when the car was an automatic. I just never hooked it up to the tremec.

And in other news....Some of the Porsche's are leaving the PCA designated run group and joining ITE anyway....you can't make this stuff up...I don't think we are gonna know who we are running with until we get to grid.

And just because its no fun knowing what to expect, 5 of the 20 Porsche's who were moved into their own group, left that group and re signed up in ITE. I don't think we're really going to know who we're racing until we hit the grid.

So far:
5) 911's and 3 Mustangs.
