if it wasn't for all the body work falling off (when will Ford learn) they could have better finish a lot is needed reliability wise if they really want to win at Le Mans. Both cars lost rear deck lid, 1 car lost the wing, the diffusers were failing at even the smallest hit from behind and the customer car had to retire when the floor broke after a crash. Overall considering they were also 0.7-0.8 a lap slower than the rest of the field will make that a hard year for Ford and it's customer teams. Hopefully they could improve on all of this probably with some weight added. Still 1330 kg Mustang is really impressive.Yep, no pace and I thought they would have two in the top 10, but with the speed everyone else had it was hard to accurately predict. I do imagine with all the Ford Big Wigs there for the event John Doonan ( IMSA President. ) will be getting more than an earful!!!!
FWIW, we nearly lost both of our decklids as well. There is some stupid rule that 40% of the car has to be made of sustainable materials,The rear deck lids on the GT 3s were presumed to be caused by all the turbulent air behind the mass of cars at Daytona. I will give them some slack as this is something that can't be tested well in a wind tunnel. Tough time , for sure, but let's hope the lessons learned and some relaxing of the BOP towards Ford, let's hope the rest of the year shows some speed from these thoroughbreds? The C8 had teething problems when it first hit the asphalt, so I have faith Ford will make changes quickly and effectively --- especially since they are backlogged with customer car orders.
BS1 is quite correct and one has to believe the GS based Mustangs will have even more folks standing in line to get that model - it was no longer a Darkhorse after it's two wins a little over a week ago
I don't know what is "sustainable" about hemp mat infused with epoxy resin, Seriously, WTH , how is that recyclable?.. lol.Dang, so are these panels edible or can you smoke them after the race?
WTF??? Environmentalists F' up everything. There is some stupid rule that 40% of the car has to be made of sustainable materials...
There was definitely no white flag what so ever. I think they just made a mistake with timing as it was 40 but the race actually started later. So give or take 2 minutes were missing. Was just curious... the checkered flag appeared to have been a surprise to about everyone... the TV said 2 laps to go.. the announcers said they are coming around to the white flag... and screamed "IT'S THE CHECKERED FLAG, it's over"... I didn't hear any explanation for the confusion.. (wife had waited too long to go grocery shopping apparently...)
Was anything ever discovered?
Yeah, that surprise checkered flag was odd. You could tell the Penske drivers were confused, and didn't want to start celebrating just yet. Somebody screwed that up, but not too big of a deal. There was definitely no white flag what so ever. I think they just made a mistake with timing as it was 40 but the race actually started later. Cheech and Chong would be proud!.....and if the car catches fire would they have to cancel the event because the smoke had all the workers, drivers, and spectators high, ha! Bit nuts as Carbon ( what we are all based on ) Fiber is about as sustainable as this product, so hopefully this gets changed.
1330kg? wow.. is that with driver and a set amount of fuel i assume?if it wasn't for all the body work falling off (when will Ford learn) they could have better finish a lot is needed reliability wise if they really want to win at Le Mans.
