Lost 2 sessions to Rain at VIR, had 2 good sessions, then a clutch failure -- this time it's not the slave cylinder. Maybe the McLeod RXT gave up....

Love VIR, but not the haul. Stopped overnight 3.5 hours into the 10.5 hour drive.

Sorry to hear about the clutch failure, how many miles on it? Or may be I should say how many track days?

Bummer. What was your car doing? Could it have been the trans? From what I hear there's been a run on transmissions the past couple of weeks. ;) BTW I now have 10,000 miles and multiple track days on my RXT.

Car was stuck in 5th. Clutch would not disengage, but there was still pedal movement (unlike when Slave cylinder failed).

Managed to shift down to 2nd without the clutch to limp back to the paddock. Shifter moves between gears fine...

Clutch has about 6-7,000 track miles on it. When we pulled it to switch the slave 4 track days ago it was only about 20% worn, otherwise I'd have swapped it out....

Re: What did you do to your boss today?

Interested to hear what you find. My RXT is still going strong. Bet it's a bent shift fork or something "fun" like that, if indeed the slave did not fail.

Re: What did you do to your boss today?

I had an interesting experience the other day; I was trying to shift at @7200RPM, I was locked out and the clutch pedal did not stay on the floor, but was only coming up about half way (compared to regular travel) up. The pedal was low and felt like an old worn out fox body cable operated clutch. When depressed the clutch would release but it just felt like crap. I pulled up on the pedal with my foot and the pedal popped back into its high (normal) position. Still works fine. I have not been able to recreate this occurrence. Again, this is different from what I have read on this site about clutch pedal staying on the floor....

Anyone else experience this? I don't want to take it into the dealer unless it is easy to recreate, otherwise they won't be able to do anything about it.....

Car is running like a top, is a low mile car (about 1500 miles)

Thanks,
BT

This is exactly what happened to me at Laguna Seca two weeks ago. Happened every time I shifted over 7000rpm. Very repeatable...

Managed to get a scope inside the Bell Housing. Throw Out Bearing is working fine. Tough to tell on the scope but looks like the pressure plate may be cracked through the rivets. Either way the Trans has to come out again

Whoa. In for further details.

That's exactly what happens to most of us. The only fix for the clutch sticking to the floor is to remove the helper spring. The only fix for high RPM lockout is a clutch upgrade. It's that simple. ;)

Re: What did you do to your boss today?

Added the Ford Racing decal to the top of the windshield. Silver-grey color for a slightly subdued look from Pete at Track Day Solutions.
And I also had a Ford decal from Pete on a previous order. Decided to put it on the trailer's wind fairing.

Thanks, I was hoping somehow I would be exempt from this....... ::)

Take Care,

You're in Stage 4: Denial. ;)

;D

If you track your boss, it's only a matter of time before your stock clutch fails. The gamble is, do you change it as a preventative maintenance, or wait for it to break and possibly damage other parts with it.

Upgrading your clutch will also help the tranny survive longer. Believe me the trans is going to need all the help it can get to survive.

I'm contemplating this now....

I'm thinking exedy hypersingle or double, a full kit with flywheel and slave cylinder...

Re: What did you do to your boss today?

Researched and priced twin disc clutches. Looked at McLeod RST, Exedy and RAM. Thinking about going with organic disc material with sprung hubs. I want to avoid chatter on initial start ups.

Came across this:

Anyone have experience with RAM?

All of these choices are SFI certified.

Thanks,
Dave
