Re: What did you do to your boss today?

Now the car is back from the body shop form round one of repairs. Round two when the hood shows up. I got to drop the cross member, swapped out the cracked oil pan for the new one, then put it all back together. OH WHAT FUN ! Had it done in about 4 hours. The Maximum Motorsports cross brace works like a charm. http://www.maximummotorsports.com/Engine-Support-Beam-2005-2014-Mustang-P1505.aspx
$50.00 well spent and makes the job so much easier.

Hummm, ready for the next toy? Could it possibly be American, and has 526HP NA engine with Italian roots?

Let us know,
Dave

Good work. Hopefully your car will be back together soon! The MM cross brace looks pretty neat. I'll keep that in mind if I ever have to drop the K-member

I can now drive it and track it. The messed up hood still stays on, it just looks beat up a bit.

Happy to learn that your Boss is back in action and almost complete. I would imagine this ordeal was stressful at times.

Hopefully when done she will be better that before.

Good luck on the track,
Dave

Thanks Dave, Every time I have to repair it I try to upgrade something. This Time it was the oil pan. Went with the Moroso Aluminum, It was the Moroso steel pan that cracked at the weld just at the stump. The steel is real thin, the aluminum is twice as thick. Hoping it stay together this time.

!!

Wow. Wouldn't have expected that. I went with steel as I thought it would be MORE durable than the Aluminum. Interesting feedback.

Dave, you're right :)

but first the LS must go. 4 stangs in the stable would be to much.

Have a great day, Andreas

I know right! That was the same thing I was thinking..It is a hair line crack about 3 inches long. seen from the top it look as if it wasn't welded, but was.

Was this damaged in an off or just cracked from normal use? I have aluminum version and am happy as could be with it.

Hard to say, I didn't go off at Laguna Seca at all and tha'st where it started, I did go off at Button Willow in March but the pan held up to that as far as I know, no oil dripping.

Here's a picture of the RXT Clutch and the Friction plate failure:

Note the lack of damper springs. Apparently fine for drag racing, allegedly not good for engine braking.

Here's a sequence of pics showing the Exedy Flywheel, Friction plate and Pressure plates on install:

Clutch disengagement is still an issue, so the clutch failure must have damaged either the Master or Slave cylinder. Hopefully it's the Master as the Slave is only 2 weeks old!

This is my logic:

The debris from the broken friction plate likely got caught up in the friction plates, restricting the TOB travel and preventing disengagement. At that point there's probably excess pressure in the hydraulics and the weakest link will fail -- likely and hopefully the older and weaker Master.....

We'll see tomorrow.....

Re: What did you do to your boss today?

Bummer. Your friction plates look a lot more "burnt" than mine did two months ago. Good point about the damper springs but they are also a point of potential failure and do so regularly on the stock clutch. I'm sure Exedy has a much higher quality spring and retainer assembly than the stock clutch though. Hopefully nothing else is damaged.

Not good news today. The Master cylinder was wet, so we replaced it. However still cannot change gear with the engine running. If the car is started in gear there's enough clutch movement to start and stop the car from a standstill, without stalling, but it will not shift. Got a scope inside the Bell Housing and the TOB appears to have good travel.

Speculation now is Transmission......

Re: What did you do to your boss today?

Yikes. This is getting spendier by the minute. Good luck dude.

If you are considering an MT82 replacement/rebuild, talk to this guy Ben Calimer on Facebook. He cranks these things out all the time from what I can tell.
