Thanks. 18x9.5 and 18x10.5 with 265/35/18 and 285/35/18 tires. Pretty much standard fare for the track.

One for sure, they lower the CG of the car. Main reason is there's a larger selection of tires as that's the size most race cars use.

On the street, do 18's affect the speedometer reading? Maybe that technology's advanced more than I have...

The technology hasn't advanced and the speedo is off. The lowering of the overall gear ration can be a positive or negative depending on which track you're on. I think it will be a positive for the three NorCal tracks I frequent. The car accelerates a bit quicker with the lower gearing.

with my SCT handheld tuner I can adjust the speedo for tire size.

You can adjust it in the TK tune but not so easily. I rarely look at the speedo on track.

Wheel diameter doesn't directly affect the PCM. Overall tire diameter can. So if your are running an 18" wheel with a higher profile such that the overall diameter is close to factory, there's no issues.
