[When I was looking at GTs (I wanted a stripped one with just the Brembo package in white) there were none local, and none of the local dealers would do a swap with the far dealers that had them. They also refused to order one, as they said it would be impossible to sell if I backed out. So I contacted the dealers they told me had the cars and asked about shipping. Every single one said no, and they claimed it was because Ford has a policy that their dealers are not allowed to deliver cars. You have to go there and pick it up. I assumed, and still do assume, that it is BS but that was the response I got.

That was BS. I searched dealer inventory and found my YB '12 Brembo GT at a dealer 70 miles away, and my dealer transferred it in to sell it to me. I called in the morning and they sent someone up that day to drive it down, and I picked it up that evening.
PJ. - I don't think Cali's comments are BS if I am understanding your comments. My original point expressed earlier in this thread is that I have learned that courtesy deliveries are up to the selling dealer to agree to. Ford has no leverage, it's the dealers call to agree with this arrangement. I believe this is consisent to what both you and Cali are saying. In your case it worked out in your favor.

Regarding delivering the car, as long as you sign the paperwork they should be able to ship it to you. I am sure that they do have some rules to live by since things always get abused and then a rule comes of it.

That is a transfer, dealerships have transfer agreements with other dealers. The GT I wanted were all in LA or further, and I am in the SF Bay Area so the dealers were unwilling to transfer. What I meant was when I tried to buy it directly from the other dealers, and have them ship it to me not do a transfer, they said they are not allowed to ship directly to customers.

MakeMyDay, I totally understand. I had to go about 100 miles to get one without markup, and I started looking as soon as they started taking deposits on the 12s. I know a guy at a local dealer, he said they got 23k markup on their LS.

The blue tape is pretty commonly used for protection the leading edges at track days or even cross country trips, I have seen expensive cars completely wrapped in it at track days lol. There was a Z06 that looked like the guy spend hours doing it, it was absolutely perfectly spaced and the strips flowed with the curves. Just ask for blue painter's tape if you go that route.

Oh also, make sure the trailer you rent is one of the easy load type ones with the really long ramps. Otherwise it may not clear trying to get it on as the exhaust and some other bits hang pretty low. There are a few people here who trailer them from what I can tell, so one of them may be able to give more details on that.

Hopefully someone here can answer this. As my dealer is unwilling to offer a courtesy delivery, I decided that I am just going to rent a trailer and tow my LS 900 miles when it arrives end of May. My question relates to the Boss car cover that I purchased as a Ford option for this vehicle. What I would like to know about this cover from those of you who are familiar with this item is:

1) Is this cover water proof? and,
2) Does this cover fit snugly over the vehicle, or is there some way I can anchor the cover to the vehicle so that it will not fly off the vehicle at highway speeds? My intent is to protect the vehicle from stones and such during this trip.

Thanks to all that reply.

Here's a stretch of an idea, a member here recorded his Boss arriving at the dealer, as you can see from his post its a small carrier service. https://trackmustangsonline.com/boss-302-general-forum/my-boss-arrived-at-the-dealership-today!/ maybe the dealer can give you the carriers number....obviously Ford trusts them to deliver.

Blazn- WOW- how uncanny! We think so alike! Are we related? I actually made a post to Batman (original poster) and asked him the same question. I haven't heard a reply back yet. I think that ever since Batman has taken delivery of his new Boss he hasnt be home since! Can"t blame him though. LOL

one way plane ticket and drive it back? is that an option?
The dealer will not give me a bill of sale until I pay them. I will not pay them until I physically check the car over an accept if there are no outstanding issues. The dealer won't let me drive off the lot. If I do they will want me to pay the 6% Florida sales tax. My home state has a 3% sales tax which I'd prefer to pay. So the dealer will not give me a temporary tag because they want me to either have a trailer pick up my car,or, have me take the Bill of Sale back to Virginia and title and get tags in VA. Then I would have to fly back to Florida with title and tags and then drive the car home. Does this sound a little too complicated. Also, I am not sure if driving a car 900 miles on a Interstate is the best way to break in the car anyway. I just thought my best solution would be to put the vehicle on a rented trailer and truck the vehicle home myself.

The dealer wants a bill of lading showing the car was trailered out of the dealership and with the destination listed on it.

If you pick up the vehicle yourself, you will not be able to provide a bill of lading.

Reliable sponsors Barrett-Jackson, they have been around for decades, so they should be OK.

Good luck with the getting it towed..........I am picky too but I do know form experience not to tow a car on an open trailer with a cover on it. Ever watched sheets on a clothes line on a windy day?..........except your paint will be the recipriant of the thrashing.........The long drive on a new motor is also a bad idea.......varying speeds are required! If you find someone with an enclosed trailer and aren't sure about them being trust worthy see if they are bonded........or.....ride with them! Good luck again.........BTW where do you live in Va? Im in the Hampton Roads area.

I think that part of the problem with my dealer is that he wants to insure that I either paid sales tax to either the state of Florida or to my home state of Virginia.
He just wants to cover his butt and insure taxes were paid up front on the vehicle before the car is released? Thanks Kerry for your comments.

In California, you cannot drive the vehice on the street unless CA sales tax is paid, no if ands or butts. It doesn't matter if you paid tax in another state. Florida rules may be the same?

No, I meant that the dealer was BSing Cali that they couldn't do a transfer- they just didn't want to was my point.

Hey TheMarco,
The cover is easy to put on and take off. As to the gentleman who ask about trailering the cover, i would not trailer mine with this cover. My cover has two holes, one on the drivers side the other on the passenger side, thats the only tie downs i see. Also i don't belive mine is water proof, almost but not quiet so.

I don't know about that - my dealer transfers in cars from all over the country for their customers. I have heard the dealer say that sometimes they have to pay ADM for special cars like a Boss, but most regular cars than can transfer for a nominal processing fee. They also do make customers pay delivery charges if the car is over 100 miles away; since mine was closer they didn't charge me anything. I guess the bottom line is that I have really good dealer that rewards customer loyalty.

I understand what you mean about shipping direct to customers. Buying a car is a little different than buying a book on Amazon.

Yeah, exactly. If they don't have one of the trade agreements with the other dealer, they have to actually call them up and ask about a trade and that is too much work for most dealers.

I wanted to buy my Boss 302 from a specific dealer, have dealt with them before. Another dealer had the car I wound up buying. The salesman whom I have dealt with and know on a personal level told me unless they have a car of equal value then a dealer trade won't happen. this car is a very desirable car so a dealer trading and missing out on the sale, profit, won't happen.

That is correct, never cover a car on an open trailer. Well for any real distance anyway. I have seen what it does. Who is the dealer? I bought my LS from a Florida dealer and he just gave me a 30 day tag and I had to pay the sales tax when I registered it in Virginia. I did the same when I bought my 2012 F150 from a dealer in Pa. I bought a Steeda Mustang from a dealer in NY some years back and did the same. When I went to pick up the Boss, I trailered it on my open trailer but I do have a stone guard. I went with 2 of my friends and we had a blast. When we stopped at a resturant to eat a group of kids gathered around to look at it and some young girl asked if I would be her" Sugar Daddy". HA! If you can, go get it. We took pictures and made a video, "Jr comes home". The salesman shot a video of it coming off the truck and posted it on utube. Just good stuff. So if you are in Virginia and near the Shenandoah Valley look for a 12 black and red LS.

Thanks for the info from both you and JSGalent. Couple of questions. Your Florida dealers gave you a 30 day tag. Did you get this so you can drive your vehicle back to VA? Also, did you pay Florida sales taxes on the vehicle? Also, what is a stone guard? How did you protect you vehicle on the open air trailer on your trip pack from PA?

I don't live to far from Shenandoah Valley, maybe 70 miles. I'll come looking for ya! Be on the lookout for a black 13 LS flying by you.

Thanks,

MMD

When I bought the Boss the Florida dealer collected the Virginia sales tax and paid Virginia. This January when I bought my F150 the dealer did not charge me so I paid Virginia when I registed it. It doesn't matter who collects it as long as it's paid. I got the 30 day tag from the dealer but did not drive it home. Maybe the dealer doesn't know how to do it so go to DMV and maybe they can give you some document or something. I trailered it from Florida. Now the truck I drove home.
I have a steel piece on the front of the trailer that protects the front of the car from stones off the rear tires of the tow vehicle. Works great.
OH REALLY!!! I'm going to watch a black 13 LS go by huh. We will see.
