The premise for the protest was legit, I wonder what would've happened if both sides thought the idea of handling votes at 2AM when no one was around was a bad idea and agreed upon an audit.
If Biden won fine, if there was an issue address it. Doesn't sound too crazy to me.

I personally don't watch news unless it's local and that isn't on a daily basis.

I've read some analysis on this too - there has been a shift away from local news and more people focus on national news. Which, when you focus on events and policies outside of your local area or your life, and they conflict with what you feel is good for you and your family, and the things you like about your local area, the obvious reaction is going to be fear and worry, which often leads to outrage. You don't want "those people" destroying "your way of life" or "your town/city/state". Which makes me think of a related point...

Remember how early on in our nation's history there was a bigger emphasis on state pride? It seemed to be almost on the same level as national pride. Each state governs themselves as they see fit. How many state flags do you see people flying these days (outside of TX )? I don't see any in my area. Is that different in your state? There doesn't seem to be much sense of local unity compared to days past. Maybe that's a good way to find some common ground.

I live in south alabama and we have a large number of people who fly the state flag. In car tag form, sticker that covers the entire back glass of a pickup truck. It's not an odd instance to see that.

I fully agree state rights should be more relevant, I have no clue what people in California or New York need..at all. Sadly without going too deep into history state rights were abused to violate people so they were minimized and taken away. Also the federal government controls state governments through federal funds so the few they do have are merely face value, they have no real depth.

It doesn't sound too crazy - but where does it end? If all the courts have ruled that the evidence presented isn't sufficient, how far should the protesting go? They counted the ballots, then they recounted multiple times according to state laws. Some state laws were changed ahead of the election due to the pandemic, yes. As I understand it, the changes weren't too dissimilar to laws that already existed in other states. Is that enough to justify a revolt like this? And what is the appropriate path forward?

I get that nearly half the country isn't happy with the results, just as the other half was equally unhappy 4 years ago. I understand that there are forces at play who want to incite chaos. I also get that polarization creates opportunities for profit. I just hate watching people get consumed with all the anger and seeing people getting hurt and killed as a result.

I think he is disturbed that the person is dead - as to the question of why, you might be drawing a different conclusion than him. Maybe not, I don't know for sure...

The question of "why" has answers at many levels and I was aiming to get to the highest level, where we look at what she did without judging her motives. When someone leaps into the water to save a drowning child, they're a hero. When someone leaps into a burning building to save a pensioner, they're a hero. So, when someone leaps into a building like the Capitol to rescue an idea, it's hard to argue that they weren't acting in a way that they considered heroic.

Where I was going with that post was looking at how people absorb the cultural norms that lead to this kind of rescue behavior. Where, up until about 40 years ago, it was school, community and church that established that culture, we now have people on our mobile devices, our cable TV channels and our computer screens doing it. I read an article a while back about how the printing press changed society because people get their information in a new way, and that it took about 100 years for people to learn how not to believe everything they read. We're about 40 years into that kind of shift now, and we've clearly got a ways to go.

The problem is much much deeper and way worse then any of us know. Pick up a history book, look at the fall of the roman empire and other great civilizations....all the same things happen every time. We just have better technology now and the games are more sophisticated.
Some will site conspiracy theorists, but the things that are happening have long been foretold and they are happening exactly like they said they would so, are they really conspiracy theorists when they are right?
Anybody actually going to learn from this or are we going to continue to deny whats going on and let it happen anyway?

I guess I just don't have that much faith in people's ability to organize such a covert and massive operation where everyone I know is an unknowing actor in the real life Truman Show. Or maybe I'm the only actor, who knows! If so, you guys have been great - thanks for being so kind to me in the process.

Let's just say for a minute that the blue pill/red pill theory is true, and it does go much deeper and is way worse then any of us know... What do you think would be considered reasonable/realistic outcomes if the majority of the US population did find it all to be 100% true and took action? Would it be a simple correction and then we're living in bliss? Or would life as we know it be completely torn apart? And if it is true, how long has it actually been going on? For 50 years? Since the birth of the nation? Who has the real answers? And who wants to spend so much time and effort going down the rabbit hole, obsessing about it if there is a real chance none of it is actually true? Don't know the answers to those, just posing the questions. I know everyone will probably have different answers.

What would you have said 5 years ago if I told you that government was going to tell you where you could go and when you travel and with whom you could congregate with and you might have to carry a card that authorize travel to certain places on certain transits? (vaccination cards are currently in discussion)....and they would claim that it was for the greater good? You would have called me a conspiracy theorist. What would you have said a year ago when we were told to stay home "for 15 days to flatten the curve" and someone told you BS they are going to use this as a stepping stone to control us long term? What would you have said if someone told you that government would shut down whole segments of business while allowing other segments to flourish? You would have said I was paranoid. Censorship. Only authorized propaganda is allowed, anything else is "Fact checked" and shut down so we only see what they want us to see. What do you call it when the people who are doing the lying are the same ones who decide what is truth? ...When was the last time a whole economy was shut down for a virus with a 95%+ survival rate?

If we go back to @blacksheep-1's original post on this thread, he's making an important point. He was appalled that an intelligent and highly trained person could end up dead because various forms of media had convinced them to go on a suicide mission.

That seems like a far, far stretch between what you posted and anything he wrote.

But he liked your post, and it sounds much more palatable to a bystander, so I guess it suffices.

Nobody posted on the capitol officer that died last night as a result of injuries from doing his job.

What did so many people say when hundreds of doctors and nurses said that Covoid was being blown out of proportion to push an agenda and that the death rate was nowhere near what they claimed?

I don't know what everyone else did but I talked with the doctors and nurses I know personally to try and compare notes and see what makes the most sense - though, if they are all part of the cast of the Truman Show I'm stuck in, I'm screwed no matter what.

I guess we'll find out at some point though. Sure seems like a dark, pessimistic way to look at things. I joked with my wife the other day that the vaccine could end up playing out like the movie I Am Legend (the one with Will Smith). Hopefully that one doesn't come back to bite me (my daughter would call that a dad joke).

I was wondering about that - it's still not totally clear that it's real. What I've seen today ranges from "didn't happen" to "he's in a coma on life support" to "he's died".

UPDATE: So, Canadian media has now reported that a LEO who attended the Capitol and "physically engaged" with protestors suffered a stroke after returning to his office. The Canadian report said that the NYT had reported that he'd been hit on the head with a fire extinguisher.

One odd thought that I had as I watched this all unfold live on TV (and I watched it on Fox because their coverage was better) was how relatively peaceful it all was. At the time all we heard was one person shot, and other than that, the cops had backed off and let the protestors make their point before they rounded them up and booted them out. I couldn't stop wondering how many bodies we'd be counting if the National Guard had been standing in a ring around the building.

We saw cellphone videos of cops opening the fence and letting the "Protesters" in....they were invited.
Side by side pics were posted of the ones who initially broke in and did the damage with pics of those same people at antifa riots. Once the flood gates opened everybody followed them in.This was a false flag event designed to malign Conservatives.
Oddly enough, some of those video accounts have now been banned from YouTube. When the cabal doesn't like the story they censor it.
