Huge brake upgrade for S197 chassis

No info yet, but I just ordered Steve's "kit" yesterday. It was $1018 out the door. I still need to order pads, lines, fluid, and spacers. I might do the front upgrade in conjunction with an upgrade to the GT500 rear rotor. Otherwise, I have stock wheels, master cylinder, and ABS module. Right now the target is to do this around the first week of April. In my usual way, I will document the 'f out of everything. Lots of pictures.

What did we conclude wrt the best braided line option? Tim? The Goodridge sound promising.

Any hard data regarding stock wheel fitment? Will a 1/4" spacer work? Other sizes? Is there a recommended spacer brand or source?

Special recognition to Steve for this amazing find! I have avoided this site for a couple of years, because I knew it would cost me money if I ever peeked in here for a look. Well, it was this thread that drew me in like a moth to a flame. Thanks, Steve. I either love you or hate you. ;)

I have the Goodridge lines inbound and will test fit them on the calipers to see what needs to change, then send the request to Goodridge. The issue is Goodridge uses OE style blocks on the hoses at the caliper not the round ends. The standard Shelby lines will work if using the OEM or Goodridge with a touch from a grinder but the S550 ends mated to the GT500/S197 lines should be a bolt-on. I will update when we get it figured out.

Thanks, Tim. I just got my Goodridge p/n: 12367 (for GT500) and all four lines terminate in the classic "round" banjo fitting.

Glad to hear El Jefe. I always run spacers with my Team Dynamics 18x10 or Boss 302S 19x10 wheels so didn't realize stock Boss wheels would need to be spaced out to clear. Also I run aftermarket braided brake hoses that have a round hose end so didn't have that issue either. Thanks for the update.

What size spacer did you need for your Team Dynamics to clear?

Hello fellow enthusiasts,

As you can all tell, I'm new to this forum. I've recently picked up a 14 GT with brembo brakes and am beginning an autocross/track oriented build. As I stumbled across this forum and this thread, this braking upgrade has caught my eye.

I see it seems to be the consensus that the 18x10 ET43 Apex EC-7's clear this brake upgrade, but does anyone know if the stock '14 track pack/brembo wheels will clear it? I plan to run the Apex's in the summer but keep the stock 19" brembo package wheels for off season duty. I'd be willing to run them with a small spacer if needed to clear.

Thanks in advance and thanks for this forum in general that's already been a wealth of information to me in my new adventure.

@Stig_v5.0 welcome to TMO. As the captain stated you'll need a small spacer but should be fine otherwise. What other mods do you have planned?

I've been trying to build my parts list since I bought the car last June. The car was one owner with 8k miles on the clock but it already had a handful of mods. It has upgraded non adj LCAs, an adj UCA and panhard bar, LCA relocation brackets, and what looks like the Koni STR.T spring/damper kit.

It rides harsh in the rear, it's all poly back there and I think it binds pretty good under big turning loads.

That's being said, the first orders of business on this car include a cortex watts link, lighter wheels with wider tires, and as of yesterday I think I've added this braking upgrade to the list! LOL

It's not going to see a ton of track time but it will likely see several autoX events. I'll probably shy away from track days almost entirely while this is my only vehicle as it would be a financial tragedy to stuff the thing and not have something else to drive in the interim.

Can anyone comment on brake pedal feel changes? One of my major gripes on Coyote mustangs is the lack of pedal feel compared to most sporting cars. Does pedal improve with the caliper change or is that all in the master cylinder on the S550?

Just got my G-Loc pads! When I opened the box, I started involuntarily laughing. These pads are comically huge.

Yes, they provide a much larger pad surface. Just a side note the Focus RS front pad is almost identical in size to the 1001 Boss pad. It's amazing how much the pad sizes have grown in the last 5 years.

1. I do not have that information but the surface area is going to be pretty close, 2.No, the computer counts teeth, it responds to inputs. 3. Master Cylinders are the same. Brake Boosters are different. But one engine is S/C one is N/A, not sure what the difference is. It may change feel?

Edit: Chris will have piston size data around Fridayish ;)
